Dahlias

I have never grown Dahlias before but fell in love with them after looking online for new varieties of flowers to fill the new garden with. Even though they looked very scary and were more expensive than seed, I decided to give them a try. I ordered 3 different mixed varieties, that way we had many colors and varieties and felt that it was less expensive doing it this way. I have to admit that when they arrived it was a little overwhelming. What am I going to do with these in my apartment for the time being. Makes me laugh just thinking about it now.

Determined to give it a try I did start looking them up online to learn about the eyes and still it was very confusing to me trying to determine where they were. I decided that if I pre sprouted them in trays I would see the growth and this would help me know what was viable and what was not. So here are some pictures of the first sprouts and then how big they got before I planted them out in their new home outdoors. As I mentioned in the previous post, I made some quick fabric totes from scrap fabrics I had from previous projects and used them for temporary housing.
